The future of Off Campus could be much bigger than the first four books. In a recent Hollywood Reporter interview, Belmont Cameli said Amazon optioned all five books in Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series as well as all four books in Briar U, the follow-up series centered on a new group of Briar University couples.
That does not mean Prime Video has ordered nine seasons. It does mean Amazon has secured the adaptation rights to nine books, giving the series room to continue well beyond the original group if it remains successful.
The show is already starting to build toward that possibility. Hunter Davenport was introduced in Season 1, while Summer Di Laurentis joins Season 2.
Spoiler alert for the Briar U books: Summer becomes the female lead of The Chase, where she develops feelings for Fitzy while Hunter is also interested in her, creating a brief love triangle between the three. But Summer ultimately ends up with Fitzy, while Hunter later gets his own romance with Demi Davis in The Play. Their early introductions make both characters especially important if the series eventually moves into Briar U.
Showrunner Louisa Levy has also spoken openly about wanting to continue beyond the four core Off-Campus books. When asked whether she had plans for more than four seasons, Levy pointed to the four Briar U books and said that, “in success, we could do all of them.”
There is one complication. The Legacy, the fifth Off-Campus book, revisits the original couples later in their relationships. Levy has said it does not contain enough material to sustain a full season. That leaves open the possibility that its stories could be used in other seasons or adapted as a special, though no such plans have been confirmed.
For now, the biggest takeaway is simple: Amazon holds the rights to a much larger Off Campus franchise than the show has adapted so far. If the series keeps performing, there is plenty of material for it to continue for years.
