Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor Are Starring in a New Horror Romance Written by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan

Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor are teaming up for one of the more unexpected romances headed to theaters next year. Remain combines the emotional love stories Nicholas Sparks is known for with the supernatural mystery and darker atmosphere associated with M. Night Shyamalan.

The story follows Tate, an architect trying to rebuild his life after the death of his sister. Before she died, she told him that she could see spirits still tethered to the living world and that the ability runs in their family. Tate struggles to believe her, especially as someone who relies heavily on logic and reason.

After heading to Cape Cod, Tate meets Wren, a mysterious woman who immediately challenges those beliefs. The two form a connection unlike anything either has experienced before, but Tate soon realizes there is much more happening beneath the surface of Wren’s seemingly idyllic small-town life.

As their relationship grows, secrets, jealousy and danger begin closing in around them. Tate eventually realizes he will have to uncover the truth about Wren’s past before time runs out, turning their romance into something much darker and more supernatural.

The first teaser gives audiences a glimpse at that balance. It begins with Tate and Wren meeting and developing a romantic connection before the footage becomes increasingly unsettling, with strange encounters and unexplained events suggesting that Tate’s sister may have been telling the truth about their family.

The project also came together differently from a traditional book adaptation. Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan developed the original story together, then created separate versions from the same concept. Sparks wrote the novel while Shyamalan wrote and directed the film.
Remain arrives in theaters February 5, 2027, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
