Here’s Everything We Know About the New Movie

Brendan Fraser is officially heading back into The Mummy universe, with the new film beginning production on September 7, 2026.
While discussing the project with CANAL+, Fraser revealed that he had to be back at work Monday morning, confirming that cameras were about to start rolling on the long-awaited sequel. The film will reunite Fraser with Rachel Weisz as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, marking the first time the pair have appeared together in the franchise since The Mummy Returns in 2001.
Several familiar faces are also returning. John Hannah is back as Jonathan Carnahan, Oded Fehr will reprise Ardeth Bay, and Kevin J. O’Connor is returning as Beni, despite the character dying in the original 1999 movie.
Arnold Vosloo may also be part of the reunion. Hannah has said that Vosloo, who played Imhotep in the first two films, was returning and finalizing his agreement, although Universal has not formally announced his casting.
The sequel will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo behind Ready or Not, Scream and Abigail. David Coggeshall is writing the screenplay, while Sean Daniel, who produced the original Mummy films, is returning as a producer.
The directors have already shared some clues about how they plan to approach the franchise. Tyler Gillett said they want to emphasize practical effects and steer the film into Raiders of the Lost Ark territory, suggesting the sequel will keep the adventure spirit that made the Fraser films so popular.
At the same time, Radio Silence’s horror background has fans wondering whether this installment may lean further into the scarier side of The Mummy. Fraser has previously described the project as the sequel he had been waiting roughly 20 years to make.
Numan Acar has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role, while story details remain under wraps. One of the biggest mysteries is how Beni will return after his memorable death in the original film.
The new Mummy movie does not yet have an official title. Universal has set its theatrical release for October 15, 2027.
