Netflix has officially found its Stassie and Nate.

Daisy Jelley will play competitive figure skater Anastasia “Stassie” Allen opposite Connor Simos as hockey captain Nate Hawkins in Netflix’s adaptation of Hannah Grace’s bestselling romance Icebreaker.

The series follows Stassie, a transfer student chasing Olympic gold, and Nate, a college hockey star with NHL ambitions. After an accident forces their teams to share a rink, the two athletes are pushed into each other’s orbit.

Who’s Behind the Series?

Amanda Lasher, a writer and producer on Gossip Girl, will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

Jade Halley Bartlett is credited as the series creator and executive producer. Hannah Grace will also executive produce her adaptation alongside Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre of Cooper’s Unwell Productions.

Netflix previously described Bartlett as Lasher’s co-writer, while identifying Lasher specifically as the series’ showrunner.

When Does Icebreaker Start Filming?

Production is expected to begin in British Columbia this fall.

Production listings have shifted, with an earlier schedule pointing to an October start and a newer Creative BC listing placing the start in November.
Netflix has not announced a release date or episode count.

What Are the Maple Hills Books About?

Icebreaker introduces Stassie and Nate. Stassie has spent years pursuing her figure-skating goals, while Nate captains the Maple Hills hockey team. A rink problem forces their teams to share the ice, bringing the pair much closer than either expected.

Wildfire switches to Russ Callaghan and Aurora Roberts. After a one-night stand at an end-of-year party, they unexpectedly reunite when they both take jobs as counselors at the same summer camp, where relationships between staff are forbidden.

Daydream follows Henry Turner and Halle Jacobs. Henry is struggling with a difficult class while adjusting to becoming hockey captain. After meeting Halle, the two agree to help each other: she helps him academically while he helps the aspiring author gain experiences needed for her writing.

Will the Other Maple Hills Books Be Adapted?

For now, Netflix has only announced Icebreaker. There has been no official announcement that Wildfire or Daydream will become future seasons.

The books do offer a natural path for expansion, with each installment following a different couple within the interconnected Maple Hills world. But whether Netflix plans to follow that structure beyond Stassie and Nate remains unknown.

With the leads now cast and production approaching, the next major updates to watch for are additional casting, the official start of filming and eventually a release window.
