Lindsay Lohan is heading back to Netflix, and her next movie is bringing her back together with one of the directors behind two of her most recognizable films.
Lohan will star opposite Henry Golding in Return to You, a new Netflix romance directed by Mark Waters, who previously directed Lohan in 2003’s Freaky Friday and 2004’s Mean Girls. The film marks Lohan and Waters’ first movie together in more than 20 years.
And the story is taking Lohan back to the 2000s in more ways than one.
Set in 2008, Return to You follows a powerful but lonely attorney, played by Lohan, who accidentally receives an emotional DVD recorded by a dying woman for her husband. Using the clues left behind on the recording, she sets out to find the man the message was originally intended for.
Golding, known for films including Crazy Rich Asians and Last Christmas, stars opposite Lohan in the romance.
The project also gives Lohan a role behind the camera. She is producing Return to You alongside Brad Krevoy, while Eric Champnella wrote the screenplay. Netflix says additional cast members will be announced.
The movie continues Lohan’s relationship with Netflix following Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret. She also recently returned as Anna Coleman in Disney’s Freakier Friday, the sequel to her 2003 film with Jamie Lee Curtis.
Return to You is now in production. Netflix has not announced a release date yet.
With Lohan reuniting with Waters and a story literally set in 2008, her next Netflix era is taking her back to familiar territory while giving her an entirely new romance to lead.
